Ingredients

  • Canola oil
  • 2 c. rice
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 3/4 c. chopped onion
  • 2 cans (7 oz) tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Add canola oil to coat the bottom of a pot
  2. Add rice and saute till toasted...rice becomes milky looking....opaque
  3. Add 2 cloves of garlic and chopped onion (3/4 cup chopped onion)
  4. Helen often adds chopped carrots and peas.
  5. Add 2 small cans tomato sauce (7 oz) and water to make 4 cups liquid.
  6. Add 2 cloves on top.
  7. Bring to boil, stir and put on low to simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  8. Mary Ann's variation: add 14 oz Pace mild picante sauce instead of the tomato sauce.
  9. And water to make 4 cups total liquid.
  10. The pieces of chile and peppers in the picante makes it yummy!
