Ingredients

  • 40 or so Saltine Crackers
  • 1 c. butter (do not substitute)
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 12 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate morsels (I use Ghirardelli bitter-sweet)
  • Optional Topping:
  • Approx. 1/4 c. shelled walnuts or pecans, chopped ultra fine (I use pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Line a cookie sheet with sides with aluminum foil. Spray lightly with Pam.
  3. Arrange saltine crackers on foil. Make sure crackers are flat, and pan is full.
  4. Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan and boil for 3 minutes. Pour over crackers, spread with back of spoon to coat evenly.
  5. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven, pour chocolate chips over and let stand 5 minutes to melt.
  7. Spread around with back of spoon, then cover with bits of chopped nuts.
  8. Place in refrigerator until hard. I use a rolling pizza cutter to cut it into squares.
